♦ FOG: At 0830 hours IST of today, dense to very dense fog has been observed over some parts of east Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and isolated pockets of Haryana, north Madhya Pradesh and north West Bengal. The major stations where visibility has been reported less than 200 m at 0830 hours of today are: Karnal, Hissar,
Bhiwani, Narnaul, Gwalior, Orai, Fursatgung, Allahabad, Varanasi, Satna, Rewa, Gorakhpur, Balia, Patna, Gaya, Purnea, Malda and Shantiniketan.
♦ TEMPERATURES: Cold wave conditions continued to prevailed over isolated pockets of Vidarbha, east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Minimum temperatures rose by 24° C over many parts of Jammu & Kashmir and some parts of Uttarakhand, north Rajasthan and northeast Madhya Pradesh; fell by 24° C over some parts of east Uttar Pradesh, Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra and isolated pockets of north interior Karnataka, West Bengal and west Assam and changed a little elsewhere. They are above normal by 24° C over some parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, west Rajasthan and Tamilnadu; below normal by 46° C over some parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Interior Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal and isolated pockets of Marathawada, Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana, north interior Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and below normal by 23° C over rest parts of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telengana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal & north Interior Karnataka and near normal over rest parts of the country. The lowest Minimum temperature of 2.2°C has been recorded at Narnaul (Haryana) in plains of the country.
♦ RAINFALL:Light rainfall has occurred at a few places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and south coastal Tamilnadu and at one or two places over Kerala and south interior Tamilnadu. Weather remained mainly dry over rest parts of the country. The chief
amounts of rainfall ( in cm ) recorded at 0830 hours IST of today are: Nagapattinam, Pamban and Tondi1 each.
♦ CLOUDS: Kalpana1 Cloud imagery at 0830 hours IST shows convective clouds over Jammu & Kashmir,Himachal Pradesh, south Bay of Bengal and Comorin area. Low/medium clouds are seen over rest parts of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and parts of Uttrakhand, Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan,
Arunachal Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Kerala.
♦ A trough of low at mean sea level extends from southwest Bay of Bengal to westcentral Bay of Bengal with cyclonic circulation aloft over southwest Bay of Bengal extending upto 3.1 km.
♦ The western disturbance as an upper air system over north Pakistan and neighbourhood persists.

♦ RAINFALL:Rainfall has occurred at many places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and at one or two places over Tamilnadu and SubHimalayan West Bengal & Sikkim. Weather remained mainly dry over rest parts of the country. The chief amount of rainfall (1 cm or more) recorded at 0830 hours IST of today are: Mayabandar3 and Portblair, Pamban, Vedaranniyam, Hutbay and Nancowry1each.

♦  TEMPERATURES:   Minimum temperatures are below normal by 2­4°C over many parts of east  Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha and  some parts of Jammu division of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, Saurashtra & Kutch, Gangetic West Bengal and  north Andhra Pradesh. They are above normal by about  2°C over parts of Gujarat region, Madhya Maharashtra, Sub­Himalayan West Bengal and extreme south peninsular India and near normal over rest parts of the country. The lowest minimum temperatures of 1.8°C has been recorded at Hissar (Haryana) in the plains of the country.

♦  CLOUDS: Kalpana­1: Cloud imagery at 0830 hours IST shows convective clouds over comorin area, south & adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal,   Andaman Sea and southwest Arabian sea. Low/medium clouds are seen over parts of  Jammu & Kashmir, south peninsular India and Lakshadweep.
♦  A feeble western disturbance as an upper air system over north Pakistan and neighbourhood now lies over Jammu & Kashmir and adjoining north Pakistan.
♦  The deep depression over southwest Arabian sea moved westwards and  lay centred at 0830 hours IST of today near lat. 9.0°N and long. 60.0°E, about 1200 km west­southwest of Amini Divi (Lakshadweep).  The system   would   intensify   further   and   move   westwards   direction   and   cross   Somalia   coast   during   late
evening/night on 25th December 2012. No adverse weather would occur along and off west coast of India as the system would move away from Indian coast.
♦  An easterly wave would affect extreme south peninsular India during next 2­3 days.

♦  TEMPERATURES:  Minimum temperatures fell by 2­3°C over many parts of Assam; some parts of west Uttar Pradesh and isolated pockets of Punjab and north interior Karnataka; rose by 2­3°C over isolated pockets of Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathawada and changed a little elsewhere over the country. ♦  CLOUDS: Kalpana­1: Cloud imagery at 1430 hours IST shows convective clouds over south Bay of Bengal, south Andaman sea and south Arabian sea. Low/medium clouds are seen over some parts of Arunachal Pradesh,   Madhya   Maharashtra,   Karnataka,   Kerala,   Tamilnadu,   Lakshadweep   and   Andaman   &   Nicobar Islands.
♦  A feeble western disturbance as an upper air system lies over north Pakistan and adjoining Afghanistan.
♦   The   low   pressure   area   over   southeast   and   adjoining   southwest   Arabian   sea   has concentrated into a depression over southwest and adjoining southeast Arabian sea; lay centred at 1430 hours IST of today near lat. 9.0°N and long. 63.0°E, about 1100 km west­southwest of Amini Divi (Lakshadweep).   The system would intensify and move westwards direction during next 3 days. No adverse weather would occur along and off west coast of India as the system would move away from Indian coast.

Cyclone warning for Chennai


The Indian Meteorological Department said cyclonic storm Nilam was about 450 kilometres south-southeast of Chennai at 1430 local time (0900 GMT). The IMD said the system was expected to move north-northwest and cross the coast near Chennai by the evening of Oct. 31. 
The port official said so far two of the 10 vessels waiting for loading or discharge of cargoes have been moved outside to ensure the port's safety and the others would be moved gradually. 
Cargo operations were suspended from about 1330 local time (0800 GMT) and the suspension could continue to Wednesday afternoon or evening, he added. 
Krishnapatnam port, which handles around 15 million tonnes of cargo a year including coal, fertilisers and agricultural products, also halted cargo operations, a port official said. 
Chennai Petroleum Corp Limited's two refineries in the city, which have combined capacity of about 230,000 barrels per day (bpd), were operating normally, its managing director A. S. Basu, told Reuters 
The north Indian Ocean usually sees about five cyclones a year, about 5-6 percent of all cyclones, with October-November and May-June seeing the most severe ones. 
Chennai handled just over 27 million tonnes of traffic in April-September, according to the Shipping ministry.
