Monsoon Watch

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through Lat. 5.0°N/Long. 70.0°E, Lat. 5.0°N/Long. 75.0°E, Lat. 7.0°N/Long. 80.0°E (near Colombo), Lat. 10.0°N/Long. 86.0°E, Lat. 14.0°N/Long. 91.0°E and Lat. 16.0°N/Long. 96.0°E.

  Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some parts of southeast Arabian Sea and some more parts of Maldive and Comorin areas, south & central Bay of Bengal and remaining parts of north Andaman Sea during next 48 hours.

Main Weather Observations

RAINFALL :Rainfall has occurred at many places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands; at one or two places over Kerala, south Orissa, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Tripura. Weather remained mainly dry over rest parts of the country. The chief amounts of rainfall (in cm) recorded at 1730 hours IST of today are: Mayabandar5, Agartala4, Malda, Bankura and Hut Bay2 each and Port Blair1.

TEMPERATURES: Heat wave conditions are prevailing over some parts of interior Orissa and isolated pockets of east Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and south Andhra Pradesh. Maximum Temperatures rose by 27° C over many parts of Jammu & Kashmir, by 25° C over many parts of north Tamilnadu, by 23° C over isolated pockets of east Uttar Pradesh, west Rajasthan, Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh Rayalaseema; fell by 23° C over isolated pockets of Uttrakhand, west Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, SubHimalayan West Bengal and west Assam and change a little else where. They are above normal by 25° C over some parts of Tamilnadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh and isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, north interior Karnataka, Jharkhand, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura and near normal over rest parts of the country. The highest maximum temperature of 47.0°C at Bramhapuri(Maharashtra)

CLOUDS: Kalpana1 Cloud imagery at 1730 hours IST shows convective clouds over some parts of Jharkhand, West Bengal, west Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Orissa, Andaman Sea, central & southeast Bay of Bengal, Comorin area and southeast Arabian Sea. Low/medium clouds are seen over rest parts of the country outside Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.

Jaganmohan Reddy filed two petitions-one bail plea and the other as special category prisoner. While the court turned down the first plea, it nodded for the second plea and directed the officials to recognize Jagan as the special category prisoner.
