Main Weather Observations:

♦  Meteorological conditions are becoming favourable for the commencement of northeast monsoon
rain over south peninsular India around 24th October.

♦  From 0830 to 1730 hours IST of today, rainfall/snowfall has occured at most places over Jammu & Kashmir and at a few places over Himachal Pradesh. Rainfall has occured at many places over Tamilnadu, Kerala and Andaman & Nicobar Islands; at a few places over Rayalaseema and at one or two places over  northeastern states, Orissa, coastal Andhra Pradesh, south Karnataka and Lakshadweep. Weather remained mainly dry over rest parts of the country. The chief amounts of rainfall (1 cm and above)  recorded at 1730 hours IST of today are: Kodaikanal­6, Thiruvananthapuram, Mangalore and Valparai­3 each,
Karaikal­2   and   Vedaranniyam, Mayabander, Noncowry,  K. Paramathy, Banglore,  Batote,  Baderwah,  Pahalgam,   Kupwara, Dharmsala, Tondi and Tirupathi­1 each.

♦  Maximum temperatures are above normal by 2­4°C over many parts of the country except Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab where they are below normal by 2­6°C and near normal over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal & Sikkim. The highest maximum temperature of 37.8°C has been recorded at Deesa, Idar and Surendranagar (Gujarat) in plains of the country.

♦  Kalpana­ 1 cloud imagery at 1730 hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Tamilnadu, south Karnatka, Rayalaseema, south Bay of Bengal, south Andaman Sea and south Arabian Sea. Low/medium clouds are seen over   western   Himalayan   region,   Arunachal   Pradesh   and   rest   parts   of   south   peninsular   India.
