Meteorological conditions are becoming favourable for the commencement of northeast monsoon rain over south peninsular India around 24th October.

♦ From 0830 to 1730 hours IST of today, rainfall has occured at a few places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Kerala and Lakshadweep and at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Karnataka and Tamilnadu. Weather remained mainly dry over rest parts of the country. The chief amounts of rainfall (1 cm and above) recorded at 1730 hours IST of today are: Valparai-3, Phulbani-2 and Agumbe-1.

♦ Maximum temperatures are above normal by 2-5°C over many parts of northeastern states, Rayalaseema and north Tamilnadu and by 2-3°C over many parts of Gujarat region, Madhya Pradesh, south Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Orissa, Vidarbha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, south coastal Tamilnadu, west coast, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and east Rajasthan. They are near normal over rest parts of the country outside isolated pockets of east Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and north interior Karnataka where they are below normal by 2-3°C. The highest maximum temperature of 37.6°C has been recorded at Vallabh Vidyanagar (Gujarat) in the country.
