♦ TEMPERATURES: Maximum temperatures were below normal by 23° C over some parts of north Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh and east Uttar Pradesh and isolated pockets of Punjab and coastal Tamilnadu. They were above normal by 23° C over many parts of northeastern states, coastal areas of Gujarat, Konkan & Goa and coastal Karnataka and near normal over rest parts of the country. The highest maximum temperature of 36.3°C was recorded at Surendranagar (Gujarat) in the plains of the country.
♦ RAINFALL : Rainfall occurred at many places over Tamilnadu and at one or two places over Kerala. Weather remained mainly dry over rest parts of the country. The chief amounts of rainfall of (1 cm or more) recorded at 1730 hours IST yesterday were: Cuddalore5, Nagapattinam4, Kanyakumari and Karaikal3 each, Vedaranniyam2 and Puducherry1.
♦ CLOUDS: Kalpana1: Cloud imagery at 0530 hours IST shows convective clouds over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, comorin area and south Arabian sea. Low/medium clouds are seen over parts of western Himalayan region, Maharashtra, rest south peninsular India and Arunachal Pradesh.
♦ The depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moved westwards intensified into a deep depression and lay centred at 0530 hours IST of today over southwest Bay of Bengal near lat. 9.5°N and long. 84.0° E, about 550 Km southeast of Chennai. The system would intensify further into a cyclonic storm and move westwards some more time and then move northwestwards and cross north Tamilnadu coast and south Andhra Pradesh coast between Cuddalore and Nellore by 31st October.
♦ The trough of low from Lakshadweep area to Karnataka coast now extends from Lakshadweep area and adjoining southeast Arabian sea to eastcentral Arabian sea.
♦ A low pressure area would develop over southeast Arabian Sea during next 24 hours.
♦ A western disturbance would affect western Himalayan region from 1st November.
