♦ TEMPERATURES: Maximum temperatures were below normal by 26°C over many parts of south Peninsula; 24°C over many parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana & West Rajasthan. They were above normal by 12°C over many parts of central, east and northeast India and by 24°C over isolated
pockets of Maharashtra. The highest maximum temperature of 38.3°C was recorded at Surendranagar (Gujarat) in plains of the country.
♦ RAINFALL : Rainfall occurred at most places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep; at many places over south interior Karnataka; at a few places Rayalaseema and at one or two places over Odisha, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and west Rajasthan. Weather remained mainly dry over rest parts of the country. The chief amounts of rainfall (1 cm and above) recorded at 1730 hours IST of yesterday were: Cuddalore13, Tirupathi5, Karaikal and Kochi3 each, Agathi, Nagapattinam, Bapatla, Kupwara, Kavarathi and Gannavaram2 each and Arogyavaram, Kozhikode, Puducherry, Chennai, Tondi, Ongole, Mangalore, Minicoy, Kodaikanal, Nancowry and Coonoor1 each.
♦ CLOUDS: Kalpana1: Cloud imagery at 0530 hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of Jammu & Kashmir, south Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, southwest & southeast Bay of Bengal, south Andaman sea and southeast Arabian sea. Low/medium clouds are seen over parts of rest western Himalayan region, west
Rajasthan and rest south peninsular India.
♦ Northeast monsoon was vigorous over Tamilnadu, south Andhra Pradesh and Kerala during past 24 hours ending at 0830 hours IST of 20th October.
♦ The trough of low extends from Lakshadweep area to eastcentral Arabian Sea off Maharashtra coast. Under its influence a low pressure area may develop over southeast Arabian Sea during next 24 hours.
♦ The western disturbance as an upper air system over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir persists with an induced upper air cyclonic circulation in lower levels over west Rajasthan and neighbourhood.
